Best way for more power after a remap?

Hi All,

Im a bit of a novice when it comes to tuning cars and the best ways to go about it.

I Currently drive an 08 alfa spider 2.2 and am looking for a bit more power! I am about to pull the trigger on a remap for it (from alfatune in St.Helens ) as i heard they are very good.

I Am just exploring the other possibilities of getting more power from the engine without breaking the bank?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Even if its "dont do it" haha

Will a remap actually achieve anything significant with a modern naturally aspirated engine like the 2.2JTS? I'd be surprised if it gives you more than about 5bhp.

The increases arent great, thats why im asking if theres any other ways of improvement.

The gains are quoted at 10-15 bhp increase & 12 lb/ft torque, main thing for a remap with this alfa is it eliminates the flat spot, although that doesnt really bother me

Unfortunately if I remember the 2.2 engine is closer to just being a smooth power than anything fast. A remap will see a minor increase in power (maybe 5% or so), in terms of smaller gains an exhaust system and CAIS would do this, although the difference may not be noticeable.

If you like the car but want more power, I'd say you best bet is to sell it and buy a V6.

Think of an engine as a set of lungs - the faster you can get air in and out the more power. So, replace the exhaust with a free flowing one, use a bigger air filter.

Or for the best results, buy a car with a turbo fitted.

The cheapest way to get a quicker car has never changed - buy a quicker car.

You need a performance panel air filter, sport cat and stainless steel cat back exhaust system. The sport cat will free up some extra ponies. Factory ones are quite restrictive. Don't get it remapped until you have done mechanical mods. The remap will take the mechanical mods into consideration. In the tuning world, the remap comes last.
Maybe have a trawl through the Alfa forums for tips and advice.

Short of new cams and fitting a supercharger/turbocharger, nothing is going to provide you with significantly more power. Air filters and exhausts will do very little except make it sound noisier.
