Exhaust system needed for a 635 CSi

Owned by a former PHer I picked this up last year.

Tinkered with it over winter and drove it the 50 miles to my local MoT station today.

Looks like the tinkering paid off. It passed with the exception of needing a full exhaust system.

This presents a problem. The exhausts seem to have been discontinued and I can only get a custom built one for serious dosh. Don't want to sell the car spares or repairs, planning on taking it to Spa in September, but loathed to spend huge amounts on an exhaust.

Does anyone have one spare (hugely unlikely) or know anywhere decent one can be sourced?

Help much appreciated.

I was going to recommend Walloth Nesch, but have checked and their exhausts are very expensive!

Perhaps try Frtitz's Bits to see if they have something from a car that they are breaking?

probably best getting some one to bend an exhaust in mild and weld it your self

Just get a local Longlife exhaust centre or similar to knock up a stainless system for you? They aren't that expensive & have franchises all around the country.

You'll just want a tailpipe outlet that looks reasonably standard, so maybe just a single or twin 2" pipe outlet rather than the massive chavvy-looking backboxes they tend to supply.

My cat-back system cost me £250 a year ago.

Despite the slightly chav reputation, what about Powerflow? Can have one custom built to your own specs then, noise, style etc. And it's never daft money.

Nice car that OP. Reminds me of my fathers 1981 635 CSi same colour as yours but with black coachlines between window & door top swage & BBS style lattice alloys & mega expensive Michelin TRX tyres. Downside was the blue velour interior!!

As regard exhaust I've not a clue. Sorry but good luck with your search.

Looks like it's a twin-pipe system all the way so I guess it would cost more - mine was a single pipe.

Maybe ask around on the BMW forums for suggested parts suppliers?

You might find a specialist BMW breaker somewhere, or else a donor car being broken for parts, or a cheaper parts supplier known to forum / Owners Club members?

From my own interest in 1980s Mercs I've found a lot of useful information on parts supply and prices on the forums...

Well blow me, she passed! Now have 12 months ticket!!

Just need a few road trips now.

Didn't need a whole exhaust system in the end, so price was very reasonable.

Great car op, similar to my old one.

Change the brake fluid to get rid if the spongy pedal.

And watch that rust, that's what made me get rid of mine in the end.
