wheels refurb.. paint on the mating face,

Hi,
just got my wheels refurb for my Impreza.. looking good they are too...
but there is paint and (I think acrylic) undercoat on the mating face to the hub.
Should I get sand paper and rub most of the paint off so i can see bare metal.
or
just make sure its flat and that will be ok??
or
nothing.. its will flatten out with the preassure from the bolts

Fetch it off with a bit of wet and dry, smear a small amount of copper grease and fit. If you force the wheel on with the paint there you will wish you hadn't the next time you (try) to take the wheel off 
Edited to add that I'm talking about the hub of the wheel where it meets the centre of the bearing hub.. If the wheel sits up flat on the face of the disc without forcing it I wouldn't worry about it

If you're going to all the effort to remove a layer of paint from the friction joint it seems silly to reduce friction with grease afterwards.
But loads of people do it and no one dies, so it must be a good idea apparently. If your main worry is making sure the wheel comes off easily then why not?

I thought it was more that the paint sinks/ is compressed more over time and can lead to loose bolts. If you're going to all the effort to remove a layer of paint from the friction joint it seems silly to reduce friction with grease afterwards.

Yes.But the joint works by friction, so greasing it is silly. I used to design bolted joints for a living, including all the tedious analysis and testing.
This old nugget. Last time we had one of these threads, someone was arguing that the torque was transmitted by the bolts being in shear (!!). Not sure why they thought the bolts were torqued up in the first place....Mercury00 said:

The real issue is that when the wheel gets hot, the paint softens and, when it cools again, forms a pretty good bond between the wheel and hub. Clean it and smear a thin layer of copper ease on it to stop corrosion doing the same thing. Captain Muppet said:

I was under the impression that the hub is there just to ensure the wheel was centered properly. Surely the plastic spigot rings that some wheels use won't provide much in the way of friction between the wheel and hub?But the joint works by friction, so greasing it is silly. The naming of things is always up for debate though.
