A theoretical 'what car' thread
Discussion
If you had a theoretical £100k to invest in either a property or a car, which would you go for and why?
The property can be mortgaged (up to a combined total of £250k) but the car must cost no more than the available £100k.
Buying multiple cars is not an option and you don't have to spend the entire amount but should be looking for a reasonable ROI over the next 5 years or so.

Just to stir things up; neither.
Buy a car to invest? Some rare model that would have to be kept virtually unused in a heated garage for years? No chance.
I couldn't get a mortgage at my age and I couldn't even buy a one-bedroomed flat near here for £100k.
I'd put it in a 5-year bond paying about 5%

Well that was a good waste of an hour! For a car I'd go for a mint F355, but hard to know if it will go up much in 5 years and even a "mint" 20 year old car is still a 20 year old car. My (perhaps deluded) thinking is that this was Ferrari getting back on track after the unloved 348 and for people around my age (mid to late 30s) they were one of the bedroom wall poster cars of my teens. In another 10 years or so when I'm rich I'll be in a position to buy one.
Property is almost certainly a better bet and if you could get into an up and coming area you'd clean up. Not as much fun though.

If it had to be a car, I would go for NSX type R/GTR 34 as an investment.
yes, they are just getting more and more expensive, and they will only go up in value when the new NSX comes out.buy 3-4 NSX's and keep them locked up, keep for 10 years and they will be worth so much more.
