Had a little altercation today

There really are some crazy people out there.
Village road with about 10 cars all parked my side. I move to the other side of the road to pass them and be on my way. I see a car (Range Rover) coming up the road towards me but plenty of time for me pass the parked cars and move back to my side without issue, but on no, he decides to accelerate towards me.
So with mutual breaking we meet with me half past the last parked car but just not enough room to go around him. He then proceeds to wave me back and creeps forward so he is inches from my bumper. After a few minutes both he and his passenger get out and start remonstrating that he has right of way. Well, maybe, but I have nowhere to reverse to bar 9 cars back, and he only has 3 feet to reverse.
A few minutes later and the traffic is starting to build up behind him and at the other end of the parked cars (nobody came up behind me thankfully). Cue more remonstrating and swearing on their part. I get out of my car to check he has room to reverse 3 feet which he does so point this out to him.
Eventually he moves back the 3 feet to allow me to proceed. There must have been a dozen cars behind him by the end of all this!
Never had anything like that happen to me before in over 30 years of driving.
These people will likely die early due to stress ......

I will probably get slated for this But this sort of thing happens to me a lot.
But it appears that he had the attitude of "I'm in a 4x4, you're not. Get out of my way."
Not that long ago I turned right into a residential road to find a 4x4 coming towards me on my side of the road to turn (his) right. He was on my side because there was traffic on his side of the road and didn't want to wait. I had already entered the corner and was around 50yrds onto the road. I stopped. And he proceeded to ask me to back up, (along with 4 cars behind me) to which I shook my head. After he tried to get aggressive driving up to my car and revving his crap sounding diesel engine I merely got out, shrugged my shoulders, locked the car and began to walk away.
He soon backed up and I was on my way again.

This! When this happened to me I couldn't back up because of the cars and I couldn't flash my reverse light because Fiat brightly put it and the bottom of the bumper Sometimes I go for the quiet life and back up but once or twice I've refused, usually when traffic has built up behind me, and simply sat there until they move. There seems to be a bit of a widespread difference of opinion on this. In your place, I'd have let him pass, however many people seem to think that provided they get out (onto the wrong side of the road) and are starting to pass the line, you (on the side "unemcumbered" by the parked cars) should have to slow/stop and let them pass.
Not exactly sure what the law says - not that that makes any real difference - anyone know?

If it safe and clear to use the oncoming lane at the time you occupied it then any oncoming vehicle which gets there afterwards must give way legally because they do not have a clear road ahead
I had exactly the same sort of situation some years ago when driving LGV and a car decided not to yield - with so much traffic behind me I had no option but too stop and stay there until the cops I called arrived to move the car driver who nearly got arrested for his attitude !

I know it's a terrible generalisation but what is it with some 4x4 drivers?
I've had this happen a couple of times on the road, the usual "Me big, Ugg!" and the road behind him was clear. where as I had 4 cars behind me, he starts to inch forward (like that really is going to help) at which point I get out, walk past his Rangie and indicate a clear space for him to reverse into so he can let traffic pass. he proceeds to make a complete hash of reversing into said space and traffic passes.
They do have reverse gears right? So what's with the mental attitude on roads clearly only passable by one car that they have an automatic right of way?
They really should be driving something bigger. Maybe an Aircraft Carrier or something...

Unless the oposite road is clear and you have already started to pass. In which case, the car that has already made the manoeuvre has the right of way.In the OP's case, he was in the right and the Rangie should have waited. Both common sense and the general human courtesy of "not being an arse" should have come into play.

t in the 4x4 arrived on the scene. The law says that the one passing the parked cars has the right of way in such a situation. Apart from the law 'common sense' should prevail.Bennet said:

That's true, however the OP described a slightly different scenario. If your side of the road's blocked as in OP's case, with no signs of vehicles approaching opposite, it becomes your right of way and oncoming traffic must yield for you.
