A nice little football accumulator win last weekend saw me searching through the classifieds to find my next car. Having pondered over such beasts as a 2013 BMW M3, a 2009 Porsche 997 turbo and a leggy, early Audi R8, it is down to 2 cars.
Which one would you buy and why, assuming you like both of course?

2012 Porsche Cayman S, fully optioned, 19" turbo alloys, very low miles.

2010 Nissan GTR, 32K miles but very, very tidy and standard, not re-mapped.

That would be my personal choice, but it makes even more sense given that you've already got two Caymans.

One, then the other about a year later. Probably the GTR first as I reckon the residuals would be better (keep it standard).

I wouldn't choose either. I'd get a facelift C63 AMG, they can be had for 40k-ish now.

There will be many more mad turbocharged GT-R's and many more Caymans but there will never be another N/A 6.2 V8 in such a small body

Out of those two, probably the GTR. I couldn't live with the depreciation of the Cayman.

I'd rather have a £25k 2010 Cayman than either, though.

I'd go for reliability and performance and take a GT-R.

By and large, yes. For British roads I think I'd probably have the Cayman (I've just sold my 2008 car). However, it depends on usage - given the choice between those two I'd probably want to scratch my GTR itch. You'll be able to get 981 cars in budget fairly soon though, so I might be tempted to wait for one of those, or even a 987 R.

Oh, and the Turbo wheels look st.

Im sure the cayman is excellent but the GTR is really a class up and more of a 911 rival!

I've owned both and both are great cars but be aware that running costs for the GTR are significantly higher than the cayman. £4k+ for brakes on the GTR vs less than £1k on the cayman (dealer prices) and GTR servicing is approx 4x the cayman also. Depreciation will be a lot higher on the cayman however unless you buy one in the mid twenties.

Out of your choice I'd get a GTR as they are just awesome cars. However if I had £40k I'd be looking at the following:

DB7 GT
DB9
V8 Vantage
New shape XKR
F355 (maybe optimistic at £40k)
