New car advice sought
Discussion
I currently drive an M135i that I have through my company lease scheme. The contract is due to finish in December, and I am beginning to think about what I should get next. I have only done 9,000 miles in the M135i in 16 months, and it costs more than i care to think about, so I think I need to save some money on the next one. Probably aiming for £500/month tops, including insurance, but happy to save a lot more!
I don't think I will get a car through the lease scheme again, so my options are essentially endless and I'm having a hard time making my mind up! Ideally i'd like a new car so I can spec it as I want it, and don't need to deal with non-warranty garage visits and reduce the chances of other potential issues. That said, I am open to getting a used car if I can be convinced.
I don't think I want another similar sized hatchback, as I don't think they'd compare well to the M135i! I think I need something different to remove the comparison (although it is inevitable whatever I choose). I've thought about a Cooper S (hatch, clubman or countryman), used Z4, used 3 series coupe, amongst others, as potential options. I've even thought about getting a Panda 100hp again, and the new Mustang is due in early 2015 (wouldn't save money but its very tempting to keep an eye on it)!
Pretty wide-ranging thoughts, and I am struggling to make an idea stick. Essentially I think the criteria are 1) save me some money 2) different to the M135i, but has to be fun to drive.
Appreciate I am not due the car until December, but any suggestions/recommendations to help me make a decision would be welcomed!!

The 4 series and the Golf GTi have been on the radar, but I wouldn't realistically save much money with either option, which I think I need to do.
The GT86 would, I'm sure, be great fun but I've never been a fan of how the car looks. Enough for me to write it off the list of options.
