Came up behind a member of the 40mph everywhere crew, doing 40mph in a 60mph zone. Waited for a spot I know where there is 400m visibility and no side roads. Made a perfectly safe overtake, followed by them flashing their lights furiously in impotent rage.
Slowed down a few hundred yards later for the 30mph restriction on a village. Policeman steps out from a bush, clocks me at 30 mph, turns speed gun on the light flasher, who of course is still doing 40mph, waves for him to pull in.

t.I was praying for something similar yesterday. Stuck behind him doing 38 in a 50 for about 8 miles with solid lines in the centre so no overtake possible. Continued at 38 in a 30, but no BiB in the usual place. Bugger.

Funny, I witnessed something similar yesterday. Black Audi A4 in lane two of a NSL dual carriageway, coming off a roundabout in a 40 zone. The A4 does nothing like speed up, sitting at about 50mph and holding up a queue of traffic behind it as I follow in lane 1. There was nothing in front of it in lane 1, so I can only assume the driver was being lazy or didn't know what they were doing.
As a gap opens up in the traffic, a police car with lights and sirens emerges and signals for the a4 to pull over...! Could it be that somewhere, in a small way, lane discipline is coming back?

I am not sure why people object so strongly to being overtaken if it is legal and safe, I think perhaps my exhaust makes it seem more aggressive than it is. When I am in the shopping car or peopel carrier and soemthing fast appears behind, I prefer to get out of the way and see what it is, hear it go past etc.

Ditto, I'll move over if safe and once they're "clear" of my car will ease off the accelerator to reduce the "danger time".

I honestly think it is because they think driving is unspeakably risky, and should only be undertaken after grave consideration. Therefore anyone who drives any faster than them or overtakes anyone or anything, is being unspeakably reckless - and they feel they should remonstrate with such 'stupid' behaviour. I know people like this. They are also the sort of people who answer the question 'another cup of tea?' with 'no I think that's enough excitement for one evening'.
