V8 saloons for about 12k?
Discussion
So, say kids might be on the way in the near future but you really want a V8 for your next car, what would you buy for 12k [must be pretty mint for your dosh though, so not really old with big miles, oh and it has to have something special about it]?
I'm thinking saloon for back seat for boot space [so that knocks off BM 6-series and Jag XK]. So far I'm thinking...
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/j... - that's a bunch of car for under 10k, low miles too. I do like the R version of the S-Type, I like the fact it's such an underdog.
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m... - soooooooo good to look at, though should I be worried [cost wise] if it goes wrong compared to the Jag? Also, part of owning a V8 is enjoying the V8 sound...is the non-AMG V8 CLS too smooth?
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a... - I actually really like this. Don't mind if it's a bit older as it's a chunk cheaper and if I went down the Audi route, I think it would have to be Avant
So what have I missed? Obviously M5 but finding a decent E39 with low miles etc for 12k might be tough and E60's [V10 even better] are too expensive. CLS55 would be my top choice but you can't get them for 12k [same for VXR8]. I did think about the 300C Hemi but to drive and quality wise, it's not going to match up?
Or shall I just forget the back doors and think about getting one of these [I know this one isn't 12k but you get the point] - http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/v...
Oh, I should of mentioned, I'd love to hear from people who have got the above cars - is the CLS500 to 'boring' compared to the thunder of a Monaro? Is the Jag the best of both world etc etc?

That ad is a bit misleading, really. If I could buy that one in the picture for £12k I'd be down to Wonga like a V8 powered shot.skyrover said:
Don't think that's an actual car mate, just an ad for the company? Haven't really seen VXR8 for around 12k.BUG4LIFE said:

Yep, another good one, though these seems to be rarer than the CLS [be it AMG or just 500] but no cheaper...the CLS is just so much better looking.
On the practicality front do you know that CLSs are stictly 4 seaters? It might not affect you but for 2 parents + 1 kid, for example, you're limited to 1 further passenger (so you can't chuck 2 grandparents in the back to go to the park/pub/shops).I can't disagree that the CLS looks better than the E class though.

There's a very nice 2007 Jaguar XJ 4.2 V8 XJR Supercharged up for sale at the moment.
Thats where my money would be going.
Where is that mate? I imagined these to be out of the 12k limit, unless it's got big miles?Thats where my money would be going.

I have been having similar thoughts though at the sub £10k level and narrowed it down to Jag or Audi. Having said that, locally, there is a mint E39 BMW 540i that I keep seeing and it tempts me. It's in silver with no mods at all and quite understated. I like that shape BMW albeit it's quite old now.
I bought my E55 AMG when I needed space for the kids and in the last 18 months it has been superb! The boot is massive and you can fit 3 adults + 2 car seats no problem. The CLS looks better and I think is a bit more powerful but no where near as practical
There are loads of good Merc Indys around do maintenance is not too bad - mine has cost me £3.5k inc tyres in 15,000 miles which considering the car and the way I drive it is pretty good
