Can this be mobile smart repaired? Filled in and then matched colourwise? Whoever did this fking paintless dent removal deserves shooting. Only owned the car a month and completely missed this!

I removed the grommet and its rusting. Its the inside passenger door of my M3. Turn picture 90 degrees did not post properly for some reason!

I want these holes filled in and back to OEM as much as possible.

I had something similar repaired, but the guy has to have the right kit.

It involves spotwelding a number of keys across the dent, a bar is inserted through the keys and most of the dent will pull out. I imagine yours will need a small swab of filler to finish it off.

Mine was a chipsaway repair, but they are a franchise so all repairers might not carry this type of kit. Call your local guy and ask him.

Ed did exactly that technique on Wheeler Dealers with a Dino they were doing.

This took me while to work out - so they just drilled a fking hole (or 2) in the car to get to the panel?!?! I assume you didnt buy this from a BMW main dealer?

hmm that is pretty awful actually. I take my previous comments back. I suppose, true to their word, they didn't use any paint.

Animals. I had a small crease in my rear 1/4, but stripped out the rear interior and side access panels before the PDR man came. Is it me or have they also hammered in the aperture to get more clearance on the lower hole?

The hole should be plug welded, then the door aperture prepared and sprayed.

This is FAR from the worst thing going on in my life. I could write chapter and bloody verse. The one thing I can count on is my car though. So if I am a little pissed I apologise its just that my cars give me respite / comfort from my mundane life.

Yup heard the same from a BMW approved bodywork guy today. hmmmmm

Either way, I am gonna look to fix it.

Only really because I've found myself complaining about things sometimes lately and then instantly asking myself "really? did you just say that?" but it's all relative I suppose. It's not the end of the world, but HannsG did do a thread on a 911, gets this E46, then does a thread on how good the E46 M3 is and then discovers this.

For me it's a reminder that buying another car rather than just slumming it in a shed means you can find out unpleasant things once you've handed over the money and had it a while.

I guess it also grates in that crease and subsequent attempted repair looks gash. Discovering or uncovering botch jobs can be annoying. Perhaps I'm a bit odd but I'd also be thinking 'how did it get creased like that in that place'?

That crease and repair makes that colour coded centre console feature in that 996 look almost acceptable.

Update:

This morning went to bodyshop and was told it was a welding job and then a repair and repaint. As I am on good terms with the owner was quoted a very decent price.

Why not just kill the rust & put a grommet in it. It's in the door jam, 999 out of 1000 wouldn't notice it !

Yeah, just treat the rust, overpaint with some silver paint on a small brush, and then refit grommet. Seriously, I'm fussy about cars and I dont think that would bother me!
