which has more authority?
Discussion
This happened to me this morning
lollipop lady halting traffic by walking out and using pole, once kids are safely across, she indicates to traffic to proceed, which we do.
Later on a lollipop man is sited at a light controlled crossing
He pressed the button, light went red, he walked out with the pole, and got the kids across, once safely on pavement he also indicates for traffic to proceed, which we do, But the light is still red!!!
I think the light still controls the crossing, but the mindset of the drivers appeared to have blanked them out, and followed the instruction of the loliipop as they would do 95% of the time.
Any thoughts?

Why do they need a lollipop man where there's already a crossing?
Surely it's meant for roads where it's very busy and difficult to cross.
Because kids might observe a little green man. Drivers might not. It's a good presence to have at a busy crossing.Surely it's meant for roads where it's very busy and difficult to cross.

I think they put lollipop folk on light controlled crossings as so many people use them they dawdle & are still on the road on amber,so they move the kids along & stop drivers barging through
As to authority to waive you through, from other threads in SP&L its said an emergency vehicle on "blues & twos" cant give you exemption to go through so theres no way an OAP with a stick can

Presumably it's because kids aren't always paying attention and may not use the crossing properly (if at all). Having adult supervision may still be a good idea even if the lollipop man uses the crossing.Surely it's meant for roads where it's very busy and difficult to cross.
