Named Driver and NCD
Discussion
So our family MultiCar policy is up for renewal tomorrow.
I have my car under my name. All okay.
My sister (who has only just passed her test) uses our family runaround Fiesta. The cheapest way of insuring it is to have a policy in my name, and add her as a named driver. This is NOT fronting, because we both use it, and she is off to uni in a few months and won't be taking it with her, so will be doing minimal miles.
However I'm concerned about NCD.
I have my 4 years NCD on my Volvo policy, and this new policy for the Fiesta is currently using no NCB. If my sister were to have an accident, would I lose my NCB on the Fiesta (no biggie), AND my Volvo (quite an issue)?
I understand that the policyholder always loses NCB if a named driver crashes, but I'm not sure whether it's a blanket loss across all policies that policyholder has?
If so, it seems rather unfair that you can't mirror NCB between policies, yet insurance companies can mirror claims...
Thanks in advance!

What percentage of the time does she use it?
What percentage of the time do you use it?
Can your NCD be protected?
The odds are Sis is going to have some bump of some kind in the next 3-4 years.
You don't get something for nothing.
As soon as it is financially viable- have Sis build up her own NCD.
You will be taking a bath on this my friend.

Depends if we're talking time or distance/journey times. What percentage of the time do you use it?

She uses it to get to college/around town a few days a week, whereas I thieve it less often but when I have a long journey on which I can't be dealing with the T5's thirst. And she'll be gone in September, whereas I'll still use it.
She also won't be taking a car to uni so doesn't need to worry about NCD for three years or so.
