Hi, I just wanted to clarify If I was to buy a used car privately and provided the HPi check with the following info: registration, vin number, V5 doc serial number logbook, named keeper, written receipt, bank transfer and I.D (utility bill + driving license, passport). Would I be covered if the car was to turn out to be a cloned vehicle? I recall someone being paid out £20,000 for buying a cloned vehicle is this true? Is there any other info I need to provide the Hpi check with? How do I prove to them that I checked the sellers Identity? What should the seller put on the receipt?

Just want to make sure I provide as much info as possible and that the official HPi check does pay out if a car does turn out to be a wrong un.

Thank you and sorry for being so over cautious tongue out

A couple of years ago I did a HPI check on a car I was interested in, I asked them if they would cover me if the car turned out to have an undeclared log book loan on it, they said if the lender hadn't informed them of the loan, which is voluntary apparently, I wouldn't be covered. HPI's small print seemed to cover them against paying out in most situations.
