Ferrari 550 Maranello 
Cost: £44,950 
Balance: £55,050 
Why I chose it: "Still ranks as one of the best looking Ferraris to roll off the Maranello production line. Beautiful shape, reminiscent of the earlier V12 Ferrari's. Timeless looks, sweet sounding engine and above all it's a manual with that lovely brushed aluminium gate. OK, the 575 is a bit sharper (especially with the handling pack and flappy paddles), but this is a car that you pop an overnight bag in the boot on a Friday, pick up the Mrs and cruise down to the Alps or French Riviera in style and comfort. Leather driving gloves and Carrera shades optional."

Lancia Delta Integrale 
Cost: £55,000 
Balance: £50 
Why I chose it: "You need one bonkers car in the PH garage to thrash. I thought about a Caterham or Ariel Atom but having driven both (and they're epic) they do lack certain creature comforts. This car is a classic and in this, one of the most iconic of liveries. Sure, it might break down occasionally, and some people will say you look like a tool in those colours, but come on. Lancia + Martini = cool. I'd have gone for a Stratos in Alitalia livery if I could have found one for under £100K. 

"And £50 left over for fuel..."

For £100k I'd stay British (ish):

Morgan 3 Wheeler £30k
RR Classic LSE £15k
Aston DB9 £40k
Land Rover 110 td5 CSW £15k

For the £55k Delta with some stickers, you could have spent £20k on one, £20k on an BMW E30 M3 and £15k on a 3 Door Cosworth. A nice trio from the era of the homologation special.

+1 Great choices, but I'd have spent <10K on a non-Evo Integrale. 90% of the fun for 1/10th of the price. 16v and 8v Integrales are wonderful and woefully underpriced vs Evos.

With the remaining 45K I'd have a proper old skool middie, a 308 being the likeliest candidate.

Both cars are very good choices but I'm not sure how practical or reliable they'll be - call me causious.

I also bet the spare £50.00 for fuel will last all of 5 minutes - best to save it for bus & taxi fares for when both of them have brokem down.

I am assuming the Lancia is an actual ex works rally car because if its a normal road one with the decals applied the owner had his pants well and truly pulled down over the price.

Cracking cars....not a Ferrari fan but they are very pretty looking cars (the older ones that is)

Of course, it's Mr Hunt's choice but shirley you could buy a white Integrale and get a race rep wrap made up for a few grand?

There'd be a Lancia or two in my £100k garage too.

It was painted by the same company that did the works cars + bespoke interior in an Evo2....so has some provenance....but £50k ? we will see !

These 'Dream garage' things have got to have a minimum of 3 cars, surely. Otherwise it's just a dream driveway.

For that Money I could get myself a TVR Sagaris, Lotus Exige, BMW M3 (V8), and maybe an Evo VI with some change to prep it for sprints, hillclimbs etc. I think that covers the bases.

550 is a really nice relaxed Ferrari. Cannot justify (in my list) an EVOII that does not give twice the effect and attraction as this one:

A Tuono V4 for serious road work - £12k


and I'd throw about £50 - £60k at one of these with a serious engine ( say 500 bhp ) and suspension / brake work over. It'll do everything else.

My friend's garage would be my dream although it is slightly over budget.

The BMW 1M was £38k & the Jaguar F-type was £65k so £3k over
