Car tax disc reminder lands, cost to renew £475, just renewed it for the higher sum of £485.

ds.
Doesn't the reminder say something about the amount may change, depending on when you actually renew? The new rates - set by Gov't, not DVLA - came into effect at the start of last month.b
ds.I used to say that when I had an Audi A6 that was 1g/100 whtchamacallicks thimmiagig over 225 and I hads to pay an extra 250 squids or so.
REMEDY
traded in A6 at Audi dealer for brand new A1 2.0 Tdi on lease deal and now only pay £20 a year and you know what my journey is no less enjoyable or slower and my fuel eco is better leaving me money to spend on a classic one day with no road tax to pay.

Surely less comfortable though, however plush the seat in an A1 may be over a Polo, it's still a tiny little car compared with an A6...REMEDY

have they thought where the money will come from when nearly everyone gives up and gets in some zero/cheap tax roller skate jobbie
The price of zero/cheap tax roller skate jobbies will go up to that £475, and the petrols currently on £475 will go the same as the Irish, and be £2500 to tax per year.mobile chicane22 said:
they dont even call it road tax anymore

as if all of it was spent on our roads we would have epic roads not potholed badly repaired crap that we have at the moment.
And your other taxes would be higher by the same amount, to fill the hole left in the budget.VED and fuel duty put £32bn into the government every year. About £10bn is spent on roads. That £22bn difference is about what's spent on primary healthcare - GPs etc - every year.

I though this, but had a quick glance and there was nothing obvious to say the sum was due to increase or be reviewed on xx date.mobile chicane22 said:

Hasn't it not been called a tax for years now purely for that reason, in that it would have to be spent on the roads. Its now a road fund licence, similar to the TV one.they dont even call it road tax anymore as if all of it was spent on our roads we would have epic roads not potholed badly repaired crap that we have at the moment.

I only use this thing for commuting which the A6 was a little to juicy for the task tax and fuel wise.
The seats are S Line ones and are no worse than the A6.
I would rather spend the wonga I save on a great weekend car.
Dont worry I have been through the heart searching and the point is if you dont like what the DVLA are doing there is a way round it.
Low emmision car for work and a nice V8 pre CO2 road tax for the weekends or ??

Not really in planetary terms. The CO2 output in making the thing probably outweighs that extra 1g. The cost of you buying the car and its depreciation probably costs you a lot more that the £230 a year you 'save' now. Think about it, its half a months sky subscription a month in tax you are saving. I can knack that on about 4 tanks of fuel. Just seems trivial.REMEDY

Surely in the scheme of running a car, the RFL cost is tiny compared to everything else (servicing, fuel, depreciation)? Why swap a perfectly serviceable car for a new / nearly new one to save what amounts to not a lot over the life of the car.
My VED is £20 a year, his is £485. How many years before you recon it makes a serious dent in the value of his car? 2? 4?Edited to add: Obligatory note about RFL ceasing to exist in 1936. It's called "VED" now.
