is it worth going fully comp on a shed worth 700? when, because its a new second car for ourselves, quotes are coming back at over 500 quid plus 350 excess?

no idea why its so high, we pay half that for our current car which is a much newer civic!!

i go full comp but manly just for the hassle when you crash at least it gives you a few more options. Also 3rd any other car is handy too.

How much difference for 3rd party, you may be shocked at how little the difference is?

If there's two of you driving, have you tried a multicar policy?

Or go fully comp and ramp up the excess. May work out cheaper than third party only.

Price up third party with glass cover and compare to fully comp.

Windscreens are EXPENSIVE.

Ask me how I know. frown

depends on the car- fully comp with glass cover for me was £90 more than TPF+T, plus £60 excess means £150 to replace the screen.

New Pilkington screen supplied and fitted, from my local indie screen fitters was £130.

i learnt long ago not to even quote for 3rd party, some times it is more expensive
i'm sure if you had a high value vehicle there would be a significant saving, but then you'd be crazy to not go full comp

On my car, 3rd party is significantly more expensive than fully comp.

Ive got a lovely fleet of sheds. On my Landrover Series 3, it was £100 cheaper to go fully comp. The scenic, a couple of hundred cheaper fully comp, the W124, £80 less to go third party. It makes no real sence to me!

There is generally less competition for 3P/TPFT cover, and they tend to be riskier people who don't spend as much on their car. The flip-side to this is that if you are a decent risk then more insurers want your business so market forces push the price down. My cover is considerably cheaper when fully comp, and changing the excess from £500 to £150 made no difference to the premium at all.

I've often found fully comp similar if not cheaper than 3pft

I guess it's down to statistics, do more 3rd party people have accidents etc

TPFT has only been cheaper than FC once for me, that was my first ever policy at 17!

Ask yourself what kind of person tries to get the minimum amount of cover possible. The answer is generally the type of person who is too much of a risk to offer full coverage to.

I asked what the difference was, he said:
"The used one has been looked through by someone before. But to be honest; if you do want a new one, ill probably look through it before you do anyway"

Informative thread. I didn't realise a new windscreen could be had for £130 and I didn't know you could get used ones.

Main reason why I would recommend fully comprehensive is if you do crash or some one crashes into you and the car is unroadworthy then the police will get it shifted for you and you'll end up with a lovely big bill. Even if it isnt your fault you still have to pay it and claim it back.
