Kids in front passenger seat

At what age can you let your kid sit in the front seat, with or without a booster ?

My boy is 6 1/2 and 4ft 6" tall.

I don't think there is a law, otherwise you couldn't carry them in 2 seaters. It is advisable to turn off the airbag though - some have a key to turn off, some sense the weight on the seat. SENSIBLY, the safest place for kids is in the back but there's no telling them, is there?

I spent most of my childhood in the back of a 60s car with Teflon seats and no belts. The key, really, is driving extremely sensibly when kids are in the car, something many seem oblivious to.

Any age can legally go in the front, just with the correct seat for their age.

Realy dont like booster seats as i dont think they are very safe if things did go wrong. He has a recaro young sport seat in the back, which is very good, but he keeps bugging me to know when he can sit up front with dad.

He can sit in the front at any age, provided he's in the appropriate booster or baby seat. The one you've got strapped to the rear seat now will be perfect. BUT, if you have a passenger airbag, make sure it can be switched off as they're not designed with small people in mind. If it can't be disabled, then it's a no go.
It's also worth remembering that the rear seat is a safer place (than the front) for a passenger, should a crash occur.

Think the air bag will also be an issue.

I had a big spin (did not crash) when he was 2 years old ( 2x 360 @ 70mph ) the recaro kept him locked in and safe.

4'6 is over 135cm anyway, which I think means he's allowed to travel without any sort of booster/child seat. From a safety perspective, I think the important thing is that the seat-belt sits over his shoulder correctly rather than around his neck.

there is NO minimum age limit

however the 12yrs / 135 cm stuff is relevant with respect to boosters as are those cautioning about airbags - although this is more to do with child seats esp rear facing ones ...

Just used common sense with my eldest. He is tall for his age at 5, so when it got to the point were the belt only reached round his shoulder and upper arm when it was threaded through his seat we moved to just a booster seat. Now it sits across his shoulder and chest, he gets to sit in the front too as the airbag can be switched off.
