Garage door recommendations & suppliers

Hopefully posted in the right place!

Looking for some advice & recommendations on garage makes & suppliers/fitters near the Herts/Essex borders.

It's a single standard garage door & won't be electrified. Looking for ease of use (it's for my sister so needs to be relatively light to operate) & reliability.

Interested in both standard up & over & roller doors. Quality, longevity & ease of use are paramount.

That will make it a lot less painful to open.

When I was looking for ours, Hormann were considered pretty good, with Garador being cheap n cheerful.

Two things you might consider :-
1) do you need a weather/draught strip on the floor to stop rain being blown under the door
2) security - some can be levered up with force or the lock forced. Some people fit a defender lock to the base, others fit a pole to prevent driveaways. Depends what's in the garage.

Garador do a new up and over - "Guardian" range, and I have to say that they look pretty good, security-wise.

The p*io*y shutter and door company is a company that i personally would never use again, all there stuff is made in Belarus,takes ages for a delivery there staff are rude and i felt like i was being ignored when i had a complaint. I will never spend my money with these people ever again.

For longevity, any decent garage door should last around 20 years until it needs repairing.

Personally I would use Garador (who are incidentally owned by Hormann , and are exactly the same apart from a little badge engineering (different names on handles etc), as Garador do a good range of 'Standard' sizes, Standard keeps the price down.

Feel free to contact me, as I could ramble on and on, but best to know what you (or your sister) wants from the door, then i would make some informed suggestions to you as to what will probably suit best.

In the end it was repairable, but as it's 30 years old I've bookmarked this for future reference.
