New Car- Mainly Motorway Miles (25k/yr) but tight budget...

Hi all, first post, but figured this is the best place to ask.
I'm still a year away from changing my car, but like to be organised. Currently have a Mercedes SLK on 2-year PCP at £330/month. I currently do around 18k miles a year, but in next few months this is likely to increase.
I want something a little bigger next time around and like the X1/Q3/GLA trio, but budget is eating into this. I like the German brands, but used to have a Volvo C30 and found the quality to be comparable.
My preference is for automatic gearbox and I assume diesel to make most sense for the distance being covered. I'm not 100% fixed on a new car, but the subsidised finance makes better sense than a 2-year-old one.
I like a couple of creature comforts (heated seats, parking sensors, cruise control etc) but I don't go in for all the blind-spot assist and all-singing stereo systems. Most cars come with aux-in sockets and bluetooth these days and that's enough for me!
Budget is a firm £4k deposit (plus anything they can find over the GMFV of the Merc, but I doubt there'll be anything!) and then £350/month tops for the duration of the contract. My main concern is the high mileage bringing down the GMFV and pushing up the monthly price, but not sure it's worth going for a 5-year HP?
Any suggestions on finance front or for other cars to look at? Also anyone know if the cars I mentioned are due for a replacement? Likely to keep it for 3-4 years this time so dealer incentives on soon-to-end lines would suit me fine.

Bit left wing and boot might not be big enough but how about an i3 Range extender? Gadgets loads, carbon fibre tub 90ish miles on electric then the engine will kick in and happily take you the remainder.
You'll be doing what 100 k miles over the 4 year period so on average ( assuming 5 weeks holiday a year and only using it 5 days a week then your daily mileage is 114miles. They say 15,000 miles a year on electric only would barely cost £100in electricity so your savings would be significant.
Failing that 520d m sport with the 8 speed auto 2 years old lovely car lots of toys great place to be and economical.

Not sure an i3 makes much sense for a motorway commute? Especially as there'd be nowhere to plug it in and either end, so it would essentially be petrol all the time. Although my commute is only 15k/yr, I'd be driving around 120 miles each way about once a month between Bournemouth and Hertfordshire to visit family, plus up and down to Oxford for friends that way etc. I do a fair amount of additional driving so the 25k/yr is a fairly accurate estimation.
Would the 520D make sense purchase-wise? Would need to look into monthly costs on PCP/HP for one of them.

Any particular reason your favouring the X1/Q3/GLA? I'd have thought a 320d ED Auto with Pro Media and Leather would be the best option. Comfortable, well equipped and economical. You should squeeze into an ex-demonstrator or discounted new one on your budget.
