Small 4 X4 Auto

Looking for a tiddy 4X4 and wondered if the Jap makers would get near to a Freelander for pulling a boat up a slipway or a sandy beach?

Auto g/box?

Got a bit of a duff neck and back, so have to take it gently.

Any Hi/Lo Jap experience?

Couple of hundred quid, it's going to live mostly in salt water.

Possibly pick a swb paj / shogun up for that. lol might not be 100% roadworthy / pass an mot !

Will be better at towing a boat out of the water than a freelander - have low range gearbox for a start

I really doubt you are going to get anything roadworthy for that budget since it's about the scrap value of a 4x4.

Thanks chaps, had a look at a Sportage the other day, and noticed it had a Hi/Lo box.

Did they ever make an Auto?

As for a Forester, my Mum has two of them, just too grannie.

Had a 2.0 auto grand vitara - it would have to be a smallish boat. Good machine, very economical. Easy to work on.

Had a 2.5xt forester, comically over-engined for the rest of the wallowy chassis. More features and so more things go wrong but still tough. Not as easy to work on but was OK.

Just a quick up-date. Got a Mitsubishi Pinin auto, only 46K on the clock. Right in my price range, FREE.

Got a broken track rod and my mates wife couldn't be arsed with it.

How big and heavy is the boat

My little green Lane jimny is good fun to drive, you could useit for 4x4 fun as well as boat duty if it's light enough

It's only a tiny little 3m RIB with a Yam 15hp on the back, the bodywork on the Pin is 'one lady owner' perfect. Almost too nice for Greenie stuff.

Yeah, splash around the near the slipway, it's not going on the beach this'un. It's a Daily now.

i looked at the pins, liked the look of them, but ended up with my jimny as this just came along at the right time


as its only a little boat i think you should consider Jimnys, depending on the model a lot of them have cam chains

i think the rule of thumb is the softops are cambelt, but they never took my interest
