Hello all,

Bit of a random one but I'm after a specific car, there is only 2 for sale of the spec I want in the uk at the moment, one of which is a private sale, low mile well looked after example and I'm very keen on it (the other is being sold by a dodgy back street dealer with only a mob number and probably 20% apr, it's high mileage and other side Of country so not so keen.)

The issue is, I need some finance on it, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a dealership that would allow me to put a deposit down, they go and collect the car from private seller and then arrange finance on the car and "sell" it to me.

They would get the finance and extended warranty commission, I would get the car I want, private seller would get an easy sale, everyone happy!

Does this exist? If so, anyone got any suggested dealers to try?

Banks do loans for cars. Usually around 7-8% APR

Not at £35,000 they don't, well not the high streets anyway.

Plus I prefer the credit to be secured against the asset and in my opinion looks better on credit profile.

Why not just approach the finance houses direct? Surely getting a dealer involved just means you end up paying more to cover their share of the transaction?

I'm currently going through this process thanks to a trader who does not have a Consumer Credit License. Thought I had it sorted, but it then fell apart on a technicality. Now working on a plan B....

Essentially you need a trader who you know, knows you and an element of trust. Alternatively you may find one who will do it for a 'bung'. Biggest risk from their point of view is you coming after them if there is a fault, when they've not earned a significant profit.

I've looked into opening a small dealership up before and most if not all of the car finance companies will only deal with corporate clients, most don't even have a customer number.

I work in financial services and have done my research and am pretty confident that the option in the OP is the only/best option for me.

So just wondering if anyone knows a dealer that can help and wants to make a quick £££

Thanks but

A) they seem a bit "cowboy" and would prefer to use a reputable company like black horse etc

B) they only let you buy cars from dealerships which puts me back at step one

Ring the bank and check, I think you can secure it against the car.

Also, might it not be worth waiting a couple of months (if situation permits) and wait for another good one?

You're spending 35 grand, if you have the money ready you can negotiate harder for the price?

P.S I think Carloan4u do allow private sales.

A dealer wont want to get involved without a decent profit in the car itself for them, they would also need to put it through their workshops to make sure all is well; at a cost and also fix any issues that it may have and potentially service it too, it needs to leave them in the same standard as any normal transaction as they wouldn't want anything to come back and bite them on the arse.

An extended warranty won't net them much profit and if they are doing the finance it would need to be at a decent enough rate for them to make decent money on it if they weren't making any money on the car itself and if they did this then the rate may be too high for you.

All valid points to be fair!

I'd be happy to pay them a "commission" if i really had to too, or say ill pay the full asking of private sale and they can keep any "negotiation" money.

Also, to add, its a 30,000 mile 2009 car with last service at main dealer last month and fresh MOT/TAX so its not some old classic car rust bucket.

Without being really stupid, I seem to have missed which car you are after?

It may help to tell us and then we may know of one.

That's Because I didn't say, thought I would try and keep it a secret incase someone tried to steal it but thinking about it now that just seems silly lol.

It's a 700bhp Audi RS6 estate, I want one in the metallic blue colour, I can only find 2 decent ones for sale in whole country so unlikely I stumble across another by chance unfortunately.

This is the private sale one I'm keen on

Looks very well looked after

You're going to struggle frankly.

As you've discovered finance companies will only buy cars through dealers on a secured lend, because they won't be put in a position where a customers works out they're actually liable if it goes wrong.

A dealer is going to be nervous to 'do you a favour' and buy a modified car, from an unknown source which no doubt is a collection of very expensive bits just waiting to go bang for the sake of a 'drink' because they no a lot of well meaning and promises go out the window when there's a 10k bill on the table.

I think the closest you'll get is buying the car from the 'dodgy' dealer and source the finance yourself.

In years gone by you could circumvent the rules using a letter of intent, but I believe that's no longer an option.

Have you considered buying a standard one and having it tuned yourself?

The "tuning" isn't even something I am fussed about (don't get me wrong, it's a bonus but I'm not looking for tuned cars only), I said there is only 2 for sale In the uk at the moment, that's literally it, one un-tuned on 70,000 miles with aftermarket wheels (which I would change immediately) and this one.

I've had a few interesting PM's so hopefully I can sort something out!

Thanks all for the advise/help, really appreciate it!

Bit harsh there given that they use companies like Blackhorse and not their own book.
Keep trying brokers with Prime lenders on their book. You'll find one that will do it through Close Motor Finance although you'll have to go to one of their offices to sign.
