Getting rid of the shopping trolly

My PCP deal on the wife's punto evo is up very soon which by the way has actually held it's value far better than predicted, god only knows why as it's ste. Anyway having a new car for the first time has put me off having another. This is as I want to get back to enjoying driving again, although I use my galaxy for work as I use it like a van, I will still get to drive the replacement quite a bit.

I want something with 4 seats (kids aged 8 and 11), not worried about much practicality as we have the galaxy but most importantly I want it to feel and sound special. But the major thing I want is something that will hold it's value. To give an idea, these are what I have looked at so far,

Alfa GTV 3.0v6 cup
Alfa GTA
BMW e36 M3
W124 coupe
Also a saab 93 convertible, this is because I could get up to an 06 plate for my budget (yes I know the value will sink like a brick), which is from £3 - £5k.

Any ideas are very welcome

944 of any type, S2/Turbo if you are feeling a bit flush.

The kids will fit in the back for a few years yet and it won't lose any money if you look after it.

Not sure about holding it's value, but you could get a nice Mazda 6 MPS for that money.

I'm not sure about hold it's value either but they're rare cars and as an example we bought ours for 5.5k 2 years ago, cheapest car now with roughly the same miles is a private one up for 4.8k...
(and ours is arguably worth a touch more as its the lower VED version).

I had a W124 coupe, they are very good value, whether they will go up in value is another question, I cant see them losing any more, obviously some dealers over price the best examples a bit .

Whilst they fitted in small kids well, I found it a pita, as it was such a nice leather interior I was always worried the kids would wreck it and it wasnt too suited to days out in the outdoors! If you have another car it will be fine! I also found it took ages and ages to sell, as there is quite a small market for them, unless you sell it dirt cheap.

I second that, 944s are lovely, I had one for two years but you need to be fairly handy with the spanners and get it checked properly, a decent looking 944 can still need welding, brakes, suspension, interior bits, a clutch, gear linkage etc etc, ok, any car can at that age but costs can escalate very rapidly if you buy the wrong one, the youngest ones are 23 years old. I bought a pretty good one with lots spent and still had to spend ages on it and quite a bit of money.

we have a family hack...a volvo estate, roof bars for holiday, dog crate etc etc.

my car...
SAAB 9-3 convertible Aero (210hp)....44,000miles. with full history..worth about £4k. full leather, traction control, dual zone air con, electric roof, xeonon headlights...all standard..runs on normal unleaded, and currently averaging 32.2mpg.
most service parts are Vectra (gm) so pennies...ie £6 for a pollen filter.

my boys are 8 (in 2 weeks) and 11...
both play football, and love having the top down and hands in the air..
.
practical....sort of....had a dinning room table in it....(roof down of course)
.
i get it serviced at "swedish car clinic" on the A41 near Aylesbury less than half the main dealer cost.

road tax £290. mine is a 2006.

What's the insurance like paul with it being a convertible and all that?

And have you had it re-mapped or thought about it?

thanks Oli. All the s2's on autotrader tended to be convertibles with just 2 seats. I will keep looking though.
