Assuming someone buys and wants to register this in the UK, what plate would it have?
A current '14' or 1980s style A123 XYZ ?

I presume it would be exempt from current emissions testing & VED bands?

would it be easy to register it? would it go on a new plate?

As far as I know, it would be like any other "new" car; it'd just get an 14 plate. Not certain how it works in terms of tax banding and emissions regulations though.

I think that if it's not been registered before then it has to meet current emissions regulations, because when the MG Rover bankruptcy auction happened there were a few "new" cars that were noted as being for off-road use only for this very reason. I don't know how kit cars are registered though, so there may be a loophole.

I'm not actually sure it would pass an IVA (the IVA replaced the SVA a few years ago). IIRC the IVA rules are now, in some ways, more strict than the type approval rules were in the 60s.

The classic Mini advertised as 1275cc, not the GT Clubman, engine changed at some stage.

No - later ones, 1990ish onwards had the 1275cc single carb, single down pipe motor, either City or next model up where the name was changed each year - Taihiti, Neon etc.

Would that have been used on a USAF base in East Anglia, or Stateside with the RHD to the driver gets in and out onto the sidewalk rather into the road? It's meant so US Posties alight from the NS rather than OS?

All to meet the (then newly introduced) US regulations concerning headlamp height. Rather than redesign the front end of the car, they just raised the suspension by the required amount instead!

I have to say a 1500 midget is one of the most fun cars I've ever driven!

They're small, they sway and roll, but the 'feel' and fun factor is brilliant, and it's always well within the speed limit!
