Bad manners from insurance company

Looking from some advice regards insurance. Sadly due to an accident at a blind junction that went against me (his passenger lied) and then my insurance Cancelleing the policy due to unpayment i cant get cheap insurance anywhere (im 28 and have only 1 accident since qualifying at 21. I rang to find out why my insuracnce had been cancelled (wasnt notified) to discover it was due to unpayment. The irritating thing is a month prior to the Direct Debit going out i rang to change both my address and payment details. The cancellation letter had been sent to my old address along with a summons for the outstanding amount. Consequently my Premiums have doubled (1350 a year on a 1.6 '99 focus LX). Any suggestions?
