Hi all,

A pressing dilemma is upon me...

My best mate is coming from NZ for a boys trip to the Classic Le mans and beyond (more on that in a moment).

I have a max budget of £3000.00 for a trip-mobile and it'll get sold at the end of summer. I can't seem to make up my mind on the wagon front though.

The trip is going to be over ten days and will go from Welshpool to the ferry, Calais to Le mans, Le mans to Monaco, Stelvio Pass, and then to the Nurburgring and Stuttgart. From there to the ferry and back to Welshpool. Approx 3000 mile, ten days, two Kiwis, beer, chocolate, bad music, piss taking and general tomfoolery.

He says Lexus 430...I can't get past Alan Partridge and having to TRY and sell it after! lol. I am thinking a 540/740 from BMW, an S500 from Merc or a 4L Jaaaaaaag...hehehe. Ideally it'll have a turn of speed and be comfortable.

Please, please do throw your suggestions my way. I'd even consider a CLK 320 rag top...if they're any good??

Thanks in advance, chaps.

Roll on July!

C smile

What about an E65 745i? Looks like a good bet to me. Comfortable, reasonably reliable, and luxo-barge guaranteed! cloud9

Volvo 850 T5/T5R or V70 T5. Both well under budget, fast, big, comfy and cool in a strange way.

For me it would be the Jaaaaaag but I think you would have an LS moment with reselling. Some lovely V8 Sovereigns out there too. Some with lowi miles although AJ6 engine is pretty bombproof.

Don't think you will get a 320 CLK in budget ud like TBH.

Nice trip to be planning. Cross Milau Bridge if it works in for you.

Thanks for the quick replies, chaps.

Liking the suggestions so far, especially taking in the Milau Bridge!

IIRC Mr P only had a little Lexus, so you shouldn't worry!

Saab 900 'classic' Convertible, they feel very bespoke and would definitely fit in. A good 2.0 16v would be easily achievable at this budget, the decent Turbos now go for more,. Any sort of Convertible make a trip more special for me though.
