Dealer vs Drivethedeal??

Hi folks,

The Mrs has given me permission to look at getting a new motor...

After a long hard think, I've decided with the new focus st. Probably the 2 version... However.... Drivethedeal seems to be able to get me a pretty much identical price for the 3 that the dealer was offering...

Is there a catch?

The dealer offered me a decent price for my car which would help with the deposit.. I guess with DTD I would need to private sell/ webuyanycartypeplace?

The dealer and DTD both offer an extra £2k towards the deposit as well...

I'd be worried with DTD that I end up with a problem and have nobody to help. I'm guessing DTD get their cars from Ford directly, so in turn I would deal with ford?

Test drive tonight, so I'm hoping I/we enjoy!!

Give your dealer a chance. Take the internet deal in with you, see if they will match it. Only fair, seeing as you are driving their car etc

On their website, DTD say they place the orders with a dealer. I guess it could be your local Ford dealer, or one at the other end of the country. However, any issues shouild be sorted by ANY Ford dealer. You don't have to get warranty work done at the supplying dealer.

That's a good shout, I'll bring in a couple of print outs and see where it ends up.

For piece of mind, I would probably pay a couple hundred quid more, which may be the chaps commission, at least I could put a face to any problems.

We did this (can't remember which broker it was now) for our last new car purchase (7 yrs ago) and all the broker did was "broker" the deal, ie. put us in contact with a main dealer who was giving the best price. All payments and contact was with that main dealer, I didn't pay a penny to the broker (the dealer paid the commission directly to the broker).

100% would go this route again if I was buying new.

So, if I go with DTD.. They would then put me in touch with (for example) Ford in Manchester.

I would then just deal with them? No further contract with DTD?

Means I'm not needing to go with my local guy which will help stop me getting carried away with the romance of it all.

Kind of but no guarantee it would be your local dealer. It might be the dealer in Aberdeen. Once you have been put in touch you deal with the dealer.
We went through DTD for the missus new car. The local dealers couldn't come close and since it's basically white goods for her we weren't too fussed about the personal touch. Car has been fine, no issues. Dealer was great.

Got my Focus st3 through dtd were way cheaper than any main dealer could do locally
was a 9 hr round trip to collect the car but the £££ off more than made up for it

You don't pay dtd anything the dealer calls for the deposit & sorts any finance or p/ex with you directly
