I have fluid leaking out of the power steering pump next to the pressure switch. A new pump is due to be fitted by a garage on wednesday but I have also been told by another garage the metal pipes need to be replaced and they are ford only parts. Total cost pump + pipes fitted is about £400.

Is this correct and does it mean the power steering pipes are ford specific and will only fit ford pumps only? The garage will be ordering the pump from a motor factors and not ford.

From reading this, it does seem the pipes are ford only:

the modified kit is Ford part only, consists of 2 replacement pipes and a connector/seal

There are some ford dealers selling the pipes on eBay, not sure if this would be slightly cheaper or not.
