AMSCAR Sports Sedans 1984: Time For Tea?

If there's one thing guaranteed through spending a lot of time on Youtube it's learning something new. Today's video is no exception.

Sports Sedans 1984 is a fairly ambiguous title but there's a little more detail in the description. One thing led to another and it turns out the video is of an AMSCAR round at Sydney's Amaroo Park. AMSCAR was a touring car series run at Amaroo and very popular with Sydney tin top racing fans. Combine that enthusiasm with a television deal from a Sydney TV channel and it proved to be another popular touring car series.

The last AMSCAR event was in 1993, followed by a failed revival attempt in 1997. The Amaroo circuit closed a year later and the series was consigned to history. This particular video is notable for veteran Bryan Thompson running out in the lead driving an outrageous Chevrolet engined Mercedes. Keep a look out too for a fantastically sideways 911 and some great period adverts trackside. Cool video.

Awesome. The cars are similar to the uk's Special and Super Saloons series from the 70s (now revived by the CSCC)

I'd love to see a British racing series for V8 "silhouette" cars sitting above BTCC. Shame Andy Rouse's proposed series never came off.

As I alluded to above, Special Saloons, Modsports, ThunderSaloons and cars from the Donington GT and Castles Combe GT or similar series can all be seen racing in the CSCC's Special "Saloons and Modsports series". We had 19 cars out at Silverstone this last week end, including the ex Gerry Marshall, Marsh Plant Hire Aston Martin V8. Baby Bertha regularly races with us too (although not this weekend).

There's also the North West Sports/Saloons (aka CNC Heads, formerly Ace Vehicle Deliveries), some fairly insane stuff in there, I believe there's a similar Scottish series as well?
