RE: Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy confirmed

The '#Under8' teasing will continue until an official announcement on June 16 but Renault has confirmed details of a new limited edition Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy. Aforementioned teaser hinted at involvement from partners like Ohlins, Akrapovic and Michelin and, sure enough, the 275 Trophy features upgrades from all of those companies.
Lap records in air-conditioned comfort, unlike SEATYou can probably figure it out for yourself but, yes, this is a 275hp Megane based on the new facelifted look with an Akrapovic titanium exhaust, Ohlins 'Road & Track' dampers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres and a mission to set the front-wheel drive 'ring record straight. The latter isn't discussed in the press release directly but even Inspector Clouseau probably could have figured that one out.
Decal set relatively restrained for RenaultsportSuitably specced up will the Megane have enough to beat the SEAT Leon Cupra's 7min 58sec Nordschleife lap and reclaim the record for front-driven cars previously held by its Megane 265 Trophy predecessor? There was controversy when it became apparent SEAT had stripped the air con out of its 'record' car and equipped it with an as-yet unavailable 'performance pack' to achieve the time; if Renault does go faster and stake a new claim on the record the Leon's time in the spotlight will have been short lived.

The 10hp upgrade, Cup chassis with limited-slip diff and Akrapovic exhaust are included in the standard spec - also featuring Alcantara trimmed Recaros, some relatively subtle decals and other visual tweaks - but you'll have to pay extra for the really juicy stuff. That includes the Ohlins dampers, fancy Michelins and 19-inch Speedline Turini wheels, as used by a number of iconic Renaultsport special editions like the Clio 172 Cup, Clio 182 Trophy and Clio V6.

Meanwhile Honda will be nervously watching the stopwatches having boldly promised the new Civic Type R will be the fastest front-driven car around the 'ring, a development goal Renaultsport will delight in making as tough as possible with this new Megane.
Renault has confirmed the 275 Trophy will be sold in 20 countries but hasn't said how many Trophy editions will be built, how much they'll cost or how much extra you'll have to pay for all the fancy additional kit. Expect confirmation of that around that June date for the #Under8 with first deliveries in October.

As far as price is concerned I've seen €38,000 entry price mentionned on a French website (that's about £31,000).
Does anyone else think they've already beaten SEAT's record but are keeping it under wraps until the official launch of the car? I don't see why they'd start advertising the car if they're not sure it'll be able to do it. Or perhaps they are that confident, they're Renault Sport after all.

Yes they've already beaten SEAT's record, but it's very hard to get any info about it. They keep it under wraps until 16th of June.still laughing at all those who were expecting an R26-R esque car.
That was never going to happen again, No type Approval on most parts last time, slaps on wrists for the Renaultsport boys and the fact they never shifted the small quantity they were meant to sell sealed that fact.
Means the firm R26-R prices will continue to hold fast ( the french CSL )
Still think you'd have to be a mug to spend the expected £30k on this when you can get a 250 cup for circa 11k now and then mod it yourself

I agree with you it looks like £30k base price as 39k euros is the announced French price. It's a 32k euros base price for a 265 RS Megane so looks like a 20% premium. I was really looking forward to this but it's £30k PLUS ohlins, special wheels & tyres (all confirmed as being options), plus who knows what else. Looks like a £35k+ car all-in which is suddenly a bit daft for a run out RS Megane, however good

This, methinks. Sure the new one will be a great drive, but just like Nissan's GT-R the first edition is not all that far away from the ever more expensive follow-ups. I don't know what DMS or Superchips can do with a Meg 250 but I'm sure the car will be a Meg 3-something for not much money at all.Antj said:
