Tune a Dacia Sandero?

People complain about the lack of simple hot hatches these days, but what about a tweaked Sandero?

Get a Sandero 0.9 TCe for £7595, and spend about £600 on a chip (http://www.ptronic.com/performance-chip/cars-suv/renault/clio/clio-09-tce-90.htm, or http://www.smchiptuning.com/4264/dacia-sandero-0.9...

That gives you a car with 120bhp weighing 950kg for just over £8k new.

Cheaper still might be the base 1.2 16V model for £5995 and a custom turbo kit.

It'd need some brakes and suspension tweaks, but it could a lovely Q-car, especially a white one, covered in dirt.

Anyone done this?

Would definitely be best on the £5995 base model with black plastic bumpers & steel wheels in recession white!

I've thought about this in the past. I'd go one better (worse), and get the 1.5 dCi…

Or a Clio 182 etc?? Much cheaper, much better to drive, and if it's a 182cup, probably appreciating too ;-)

They're not brand spanking new though, are they?

And also, they're not as safe, or as practical. I saw a Sandero today and it was huge - only 10cm shorter than a Mk4 Golf. The chassis probably isn't as stiff either, come to think of it.

And they don't come in white with black bumpers and steel wheels, which is the best part.

It's based on a Mk2 Clio, so presumably a 172/182 engine conversion wouldn't be too difficult. However, it would probably be best left in a 172/182 where it has the appropriate brakes and suspension.

Tuning Werkes in Croydon were fitting a KO4 to a Skoda Yeti together with huge brakes, suspension etc. when i was last there. So, there are people out there just like you! Oh, and the owner had three of them...
