Accord Type R or MX5, which one for a road trip?
Discussion
Looking at doing a road trip with a group of mates this summer, which has got me thinking about which one of my cars to take.
We're looking at a tour of the Welsh mountains most likely and travelling up from Southampton, so not mega long distance.
The MX5 should be the default choice for this, top down, RWD and nut it about everywhere. But I'll be in the company of cars with 250-350bhp, so my 120bhp is probably going to wear thing very quickly. Also, the suspension is original fitment and a bit soggy, it doesn't make the nicest of noises from the standard exhaust either and looks a bit rubbish with it's faded pink paint and battle scars.
The ATR, being big, heavy (relatively, though 1320kg for a large saloon isn't too bad) and FWD shouldn't really get a look in should it? Except it's much faster, looks better, is much more comfortable and sounds lovely with the new stainless cat back system recently fitted. It also handles pretty damn well for a big old barge, generally feeling a lot more taught and planted than the MX5.
I know that chances are, whichever one I take I'll end up wishing I took the other one, that's just sods law, but which would you chose for a long weekend away?

Personally, as it sounds like the mx5 is simply a run about, I'd be taking the ATR. Sounds lile its the car you care for most.
Both are runarounds to be honest! It's not that I care for the MX5 less, just that I haven't had any money spare to lavish on it with stuff like new suspension or power upgrades. The Accord got a new exhaust as the OEM one rusted out completely and with no OEM or pattern replacements available for it, custom stainless was the only option!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
