Date of first registration question

Hi
Can anyone help me?
I'm looking at buying a 59 plate car. The given date of first registration is 5/1/10 which would make it a 10 plate car.
On checking the DVLA website it says 'date of first registration with DVLA' is 1/5/10 which would mean 59 is correct

Why the disparity?
What's the difference between 'date of first registration' and 'date of first registration with DVLA'?
Should it bother me?

Have you laid eyes on the v5 itself, what does that say?

Some confusion there.

5-1-10 would make it correctly a 59 plate.

1-5-10 would make it a 10 plate.

That looks like someone either has us date format on their paperwork or they transposed the numbers.

10 plates started in March 2010 so yours is correct in being a 59, ie September 2009 to March 2010

Correct, mine is registered 08/01/2008 but is a 57 plate.

How can you think 5/1/10 is a 10 plate but 1/5/10 should only be a 59, are you american, 5/1/2010 is 5th january 2010

Because there are two dates that, coincidentally, are numbers transposed of each other.

What I want to know is, what is the difference between 'date of first registration' and 'date first registered by DVLA'?

The V5C says 1/510 which should make it a 10 plate, as I stated but it's a 59 plate. The app I've used to check quotes both dates.

Plate given is age related (based on age of the car)

Date of registration in the UK is then later

My old Monza was registed in Germany for a year (british forces overseas) so UK spec and RHD and then brought into the UK a year later tax free



Date of registration was 1986 - declared manufactured 1985 hence a "B" plate

I was thinking situation could exist for cars used as "channel Island" hire cars brought into the UK after a few months.........

You're right. I've discovered that the car was used on Jersey from Jan to May before being brought here. Cheers.
