brake pads and warning lights?

Had the car serviced and they said the pads had about 30% left on them. MB garage said to drive a few months then book the car in. Just curious if when the pads get very low is there a contact that gets exposed to give a dash warning light?

Depends, if it's a modern Merc then probably has front and rear sensors. If it's older possibly only a sensor on the front.

modern 2011 - just curious as if/when the warning light goes on how much is left? I presume enough to book it in.
