When driving along in my mk4 golf tdi pd130.....theres a humming like foghorn sound coming from the back brakes and its doing my tits in, brakes work fine n the noise stops when i brake.....what could it be or anyone had this problem before?

Thanks

Are you sure its not the girlfriends earrings...
Failing that, it might be a wheelbearing or maybe the pads are getting low and the wear indicators are rubbing on the discs?

Could be any number of things. Wheel bearing, pads could be warn, piston could be stuck, friction material could have come away from the back (leaving you with no pad!). The friction material came off on my Caterham and I didn't even notice until I took all the brakes out to check them after a trackday!

Best thing would be to get in there and take the pads out to have a look.
