Spotted this unusual feature in the boot of the new 2014 Subaru STi this weekend...

I struggle to work out how one could accidentally lock themselves into a car boot however a Lotus Exige boot; that is just plain ridiculous.

Haven't we seen this as a means of egress from several PHers whose cars just fit within their garages but leave insufficient space for the driver's door to be opened? A useful feature in that case

my saloon car has it

the only time i could see it being useful is if i crashed between tow lorries or sometihng and couldnt open any doors / climb out the window

does it over ride the dead locks?

Why though does that not happen here; I can't recall ever hearing of a child that has locked themselves in the "trunk" of a car?

I like how they injected a tiny bit of humour by having the little guy actually running away rather than just climbing out, not normally the way with this kind of stuff .

I'm not sure if I'm just being daft, but it took me a fair while before i realised it was a picture of a boot lid catch, and what that handle was actually for. It even crossed my mind at one point that it might be the fuse for a self destruct function, hence the man running from the car, explosion imminent, in the illustration.

I have noticed it as a feature on cars I have rented in the US for a long time now. Not really noticed it on anything sold over here, but don't see why it would not be on global models.
