cut n shut or unlucky in crash?

I saw this crash.. That car spilt in half.. is that classic sign of shut n cut car? or pure unlucky crash?

gas tank still spinning and spewing fuel around.

I can't quite tell if it split the floor or not.

At a guess (and from experience ) floors usually crumple rather than tear.

That's 'fairly' intact ( ) - the roll cage held the basic structure (front and rear) together; the right hand side of the car has 'stretched' and the rear 3/4 panel seems to be ripped off at the B-post (which has also moved back and wouldn't have been attached to the roll cage anyway), and the fuel tank came away (clearly, and no surprise really!).

A BIG crash involving a lightly-built-as-standard car with added rally safety gear going in sideways with the right hand side C-post against a big tree with significant forward velocity as well .

Side-on impacts into trees are about as bad as it gets in terms of accidents. Looks like the cage stood up reasonably well to me.

just what i was thinking- that may well have killed one of them.

good friend of mine often rallys on WRC Tarmac stages with his brother. A few years back they did almost exactly that- co-driver came out with borken arm, leg, ribs and pelvis. Doctors were frankly gobsmacked that he had survived!
