ill either be going for the VW golf 1.4 GT, was looking at the 160/170BHP

or the

ford focus 1.6 ecoboost, which will probably be the 150BHP as the 180 costs an extra 2 grand which i dont want to spend on the car

so can anyone advice? i know this forum is full of people that know their stuff with cars, which of the two is more of a family car

thanks

octavia and Mazda?

sorry guys lol, im already dead set on getting one of these two, im just wondering which is better, the only advantage ive found so far is the fords £125 a year tax compared to £175/£200 tax for the golf

I would take the Focus personally, they are better to drive and as you say, the tax is cheaper. Better looking too IMO but that is obviously subjective.

Surely PH tradition (and I've only been here a month lol) dictates an MX5? lol

Cost of road tax is irrelevant. It pales into insignificance when compared to depreciation, fuel costs, repairs and servicing.

Hi mate, was this an argument for or against the golf/focus?

Does anyone know which of the two has better mpg

How do YOU define "better"?

What makes a car better for me may NOT be what makes a car better for you.

In the whole scheme of things, they are probably much of a muchness. Both just mid range family hatches. Both reasonably built and cost similar amounts to run, give or take.

Go for the silver one.

urhm, i guess i would say which one is faster, has better breaks, will take longer to finish a tank with the same style of driving, for instance, the car i have now, £10 worth of unleaded will get me about 52 miles, but i know the focus will get you around 90 so almost double

ultimately,i guess im thinking about which one will feel better on the road, and will be cheaper to run, with the exception of tax, as someone stated earlier, an extra £80 a year in retrospect shouldn't really be a determining factor when deciding what car your going to get

Are you buying with your own hard earned cash?

If yes; then I'd go for the Golf if I were you. Will probably hold its value better than the Ford I'd imagine.

I'd also buy from whichever has the better dealer to buy from.

As running costs, tax and MPG seem to be important to you, OP, please get the fk of Pistonheads.

I hope you get whichever one is worse as punishment.
