Sanity check please!

Took a deposit on a bike I had for sale yesterday, buyer paid me a cash deposit with collection due at the weekend. He's just called me and said that since he can't get a lift to mine at the weekend, he would like to come over in advance (tomorrow or Thurs) and pay me the balance, in cash, then get a motorcycle transport company to actually collect on his behalf a day or two later (Fri or Sat).

I like to retain a modicum of faith in human nature, and I can't actually see any issue with this if I'm holding the cash before the bike is taken away, but just wanted to check that there's not some new scam on the go which I haven't heard about!

Can't see a problem,as long as you have the cash,just make sure the collection company looks legit with proper sign written van.

Take the cash, give him the keys say he can park it on your drive for free for 3-4 days, close front door, visit eBay, spend cash.

What when he phones to say it didn't arrive / is damaged?

Sounds like a potential ball ache.

Personally I'd say he needs to turn up, pay, sign receipt, drive off. If he wants the bike then he will. If he kicks up a fuss then proceed with caution.

Just IMHO of course.

Hmm, I see your point, I guess I'll have to get him to sign something to accept full responsibility from the point of payment, and take plenty of photos of them loading it?

Ok.

This fella buying the bike off you is going to give over the cash, and leave the bike with you. He's placing his faith in you.

When he gets there both of you look around the bike and detail any damage , (should already be aware if he's happy to buy it anyway). Then when the Transporter arrives they will/should have a PDI document which will have a section to detail any damage on it. They do this, load the bike and take it away.

Not everything is a scam and not everyone is about to bugger you with a daffodil.

Thank you. The PDI is a good point. I couldn't really see how it might be scamulous but people are ever more inventive in finding ways to relieve their brethren of their hard-earned, so I just wanted to be certain!
