In a similar vein to the Lotus Carlton thread I am going to view a blue z4m today. Now is your chance to talk me out it!

Never mind trouble, just go buy it.

In this case the road to ruin will be a pleasant one smile

Make sure to take lots of pics after you buy it.

Then you don't need anybody to talk you out of it.

If you like it, just get it bought!

If you don't, you will always wonder "what if?"

Well, I would anyway..

Robust, fun, with (relatively) limited wallet ruining potential as far as I know... oh wait, that wasn't your question was it.

Looking forward to photos and your report on how the S54 sounds wide open / roof down thumbup

Thoroughly enjoyed my Z4M - glorious with the roof down blasting through some twisty roads. Highly addictive fun.

It needs an aftermarket exhaust, that's for sure. I know Hayward & Scott do a lovely system for the Z4M, which gives the 6 cylinder engine the noise it deserves! I drove a standard Z4MR and wasn't hugely taken by the soundtrack.

Fantastic car though! Not hugely ruinous when it comes to running one either. I know one of the inspection/services is near £1K, so make sure that's been done, or is some time off! smile

I have the coupe, and do 25-30k miles in it a year, and I wouldn't call it ruinous.

The stealer list price of an I2 is £1200-£1400 depending on which stealer you ask, but if you use MainDealerDiscount or a specialist, you can get the same thing for half that.

My only 'issue' is fuel (about £7k of it a year), but even at my normal cruising speed of above 80mpm I still get 27mpg out of it.

The other (annualised) costs are minimal:
- 2-3 oil services a year (interim & scheduled every 7k miles) - £300
- <1 major service a year (alternating between an I1 & I2) - £700
- one set of rears a year - £360
- one set of fronts every 2 years - £150
- one set of brake pads & discs every year - £200
- one set of discs every 2 years - £500

So a total (excluding petrol/tax/insurance) of about £2000 a year to run - plus whatever maintenance pops up.

It's currently at 110k miles though and I've got a suspension & brake refresh scheduled for this year. I'm taking the opportunity to upgrade everything, so it's going to cost about £6k.

Then there's the issue of the billions of stone-chips/pin-pricks on the front end and a little dent in the bonnet, which will need doing soon too, but will be less than £1k and might try to have it done at the same time as I'm getting the suspension/brakes done (if funds/time allows).

think one of these will be my next car to replace my 350Z Roadster, sort of the only logical step I can see in the open topped, not a gin palace, slidy hoolingan stakes that is noticeably faster and wont break down all the time like something older and made in Blackpool.

I do not think the running costs will be crazy so stop worrying and do it.

How much do you need to pay to get one these days ? they seem to be between 11 and 20 grand.

I think they may level off/go up as they dont do a Z M any more, the BMW Z is now a bit more "SLK" than it used to be, still a nice car but dont think it knows what it is.
