Solo Euro Hoon.

Going on another solo Euro trip, I did one last year and posted a blog of it here in GG (feel free to move or kill it as you see fit mods!).

Same car as last year, been way too busy to change, might have something new if I go next year though:



I'm heading down to Beaune for Friday and Saturday, got a nice hotel there, after that I'm not sure. Was thinking of crossing into Germany and going to Fussen, it looks really nice, or maybe down to Italy. I'd welcome any suggestions. I'll post up any interesting cars or places I see and I'll take requests if I can pull them off like I did last year.

I'm currently sitting in the Holiday Inn in Folkestone so I can get an early crossing. When I pulled up here one of the staff told me excitedly that "So and so is staying here tonight!" (I didn't catch the name).
He did all the driving in the Fast and Furious films and he does Top Gear. I haven't seen any of the F and F films and haven't watched Top Gear in donkeys years so I'm none the wiser, he's down here for some big rally event apparently.

It was given to me by Russell (driving_me_nuts) and me and it have become a bit inseparable lately, so some good driving, playing a bit of music and drinking is on the agenda!

Courtesy of my OH for christmas which means I can make a load of racket without disturbing anyone else.

Fssen is nice - stay at the Hotel Hirsch and eat at the Italian in town (but book). Not sure if the Hirsch has any secure parking, but not sure anywhere in Fssen does. Herrsching am ammersee is nice to stop for lunch if you head back toward Munich. There are some nice places around Lake Constance too, and de-restricted Autobahn nearby which, on a Sunday afternoon, let me VMax a 350Z for a few miles. Bon voyage!

You should read the speed topics in the Le Mans section.Any hooning in France has to be limited to 130 kmh max or you'll suffer the wrath of the PH anti speed lobby in addition to Les Flics.If it was me I'd turn left at Calais and head for Germany then Italy.Make the most of Italy because it is also possible to get nicked there and this is probably the last year where you won't also get points to go with the fine in Euroland.After that it'll just Germany for any real 'entertainment' until the greens etc get their way in enforcing a 130 kmh limit there too.

Parking does seem to be a problem in Fussen, I was looking at this place:

but don't think they have parking.

There's a nice one out by the lake with secure parking but it's a 3 day minimum stay and I want to move about a bit.

Lake Constance does seem like a better bet, then I could drive into Fussen and the Castles, good call, thanks!

Good shout with Beaune, lovely little town. The drive through the Black Forest from Freiburg into Switzerland is a good one

The little back roads are where the fun is I find, I always stick to limits on the main roads.

Now that is one I had looked at, I like a drop f wine and this route apparently takes you through the wine villages, have you done it?

Book your ticket for the castles as the queues can be staggering. Parking is a bit of a mess too (or was in 2011) - and may be a little too 'off road' for a Lambo.

Hotel Hirsch has a car park but it's open air and has no barrier. The back roads into Austria near there have some great sight lines if you're pressing on a bit too ;-)

No doubt you will be having a beer in le grand cafe by lunchtime.

Can heartily reccomend chateaux savigny les beaune for the owners mental collections of arbarths, bikes and military jets.

Living the dream, top stuff. Touring Europe solo with a guitar sounds like amazing fun, sadly I couldn't carry a guitar on my bike, and I'd rather do it by bike than car, but that's just me.

Cheers Sharted, this will be my third visit to Beaune, I love it there. Haven't been to that Chateaux before so will check that out, thanks. I'm really looking forward to watching the game on Saturday in a little Sport Bar near the ring road, nice people who run it and a fine selection of falling down liquids!

Was in beaune most of this week the weather has been hot but cloudy and humid, 30 degrees yesterday but was a thunderstorm last night which cleared the air a bit.

Don't know the name of it, it has a little bit out the back where you can sit by an old river channel. Thanks for the weather report!

Couple of nice old 911's in the hotel car park now, maybe another little Euro hoon going on!
