Only had my car 5 months and did all I can to keep her clean but this evening my boss reversed into my car... not sure of the real damage yet but will go to get a quote tomorrow. Lucky I've parked near the CCTV too as boss seemed reluctant to get it sorted. FYI I was in the office at time of accident - the whole thing happened within company car park.

Never had an accident in donkey's so would appreciate some advice...

1) Boss told me to get a quick quote tomorrow from local Vauxhall dealership and see if this needs to be settled outside of insurance. He is on company car so wouldn't this be easier if sorted through company insurance?

2) Looking at the pictures will it involve replacing the whole bumper? The washer assembly is bent inside and doesn't work any more.

3) What is my best course of action now? Do I have to inform my insurance? Will my premiums increase? Do I have a say in how/where the car gets repaired?

We haven't officially exchanged any details but I am pretty sure the CCTV would've captured any required details if needed? i.e will it be ok for me to use the vehicle in the mean time as I need it to travel down south.

Apologies for all the questions my mind is still a mess now...

Get a quote for repair and give it your boss. He will either pay for the repair or report it to his insurance. Seems simple enough.

Why is your mind a mess, due to minor damage on the bumper ?

He did suggest that this might not have to go through insurance. Also is there any reason why I need to provide my insurance details? My car is not a company car.

Why would you get a quote for repairing a high value BMW M3 from a Vauxhall dealership!?

Not sure how to put this but I think boss suggested that I claim through my own insurance? Should I do this?

I personally want to get a quote from BMW but boss said not to?

No, why would you do this. He either pays for the repair himself or the company insurance policy. It's nothing to do with your insurers

Try and get a copy of the CCTV, as it may make things easier if he try's to be awkward with insurance

He said it's a reputable dealer and want to keep cost down. He also said the company insurance might send the car to a less well known place to fix it.

He sounds like a prick. I presume that he is a company employee too and not the owner / managing director etc?

That's a tricky one because he authorises who can access copies of the CCTV.

I think you're about to find that your boss and his "company insurance" are not all they're cracked up to be. Get a quote from a BMW garage and tell him to pay that or get his insurance to sort it, at a BMW garage. Not sure why you'd go to Vauxhall to fix a BMW, unless he's on the take and looking to save a little cash.

I think boss is trying it on.

fk him.

Phone your insurance tell them you've had an accident that's not your fault and give them companies name, his name and vehicle reg.

They'll sort from there.

And brush up your CV.

Sorry... I'm a sad guy who's really attached to my cars...

I would hope it's minor damage but with the crack it might mean a whole bumper replacement...

Ah well at least he gave me 10 min time off tomorrow morning to go to the Vauxhall garage to get a quote. Fingers crossed...

Can a Vauxhall garage repair any cars? How about the parts etc?

I'm confused, do you mean that you expect his boss's work car insurance to pay for it without consulting the OPs own insurers? Or that the company should pay for it.

I thought you would have had to inform the OPs own insurance, unless the company has its own insurance 'in house' rather than a fleet insurance policy with another company (which I assumed most did unless the company in question was rather big).

Unless your boss can get finance dept to write you a check, or he does the better thing of paying up front and not messing with insurance, which is what I would push for.

Why are you taking it to a Vauxhall garage when it isn't one...

Don't get pushed around OP!

Is the car still under a paintwork warrantee? You may come unstuck having that repaired anywhere than an approved repairer for your specific make of car.

^ this. Sounds like a) he can't take responsibility for his own misdeeds and b) is a tightwad. Look for another one.
