Went to SMMT today - thought I'd share my experiences.

My thoughts on the cars I drove. 3 words apiece, or less. In order of driving.

Golf R, Manual, 5 door - Really, really good.

E-Up! Most accomplished electric.

Megane 265 - Suddenly felt creaky.

Fiesta RS - The Small Faces.

Clio RS - The Small Feaces.

Audi S3 Saloon - Grudging total respect.

i3 - Wee bit silly.

Mini Paceman S - Total fking Cobblers.

308 HDi - Return of Mack.

F-Type R - Utterly loved it.

RR Sport - Location, location, location

Skoda Rapid Spaceback 1.2 - Plain and good.

Mazda 6 - Ed Milliband.

Mercedes S Class Diesel - Richard Gere's Hair.

Qashqai - Bill Bailey's hair.

Boxster RS (I think - it was bright orange) - Full on brilliant

4C - Worth the wait.

Really didn't like the Clio - I'd built up this narrative in my head about it being misunderstood and having hidden depths but it's just not all that. The Golf R is really fast. The E-Up! is better to drive that the i3. Wanted to dislike the S3 but couldn't. Great car. Honourable mention to the 308 - It's a fine, quiet, smooth, subtle French car. 4C feels impossibly exotic. Boxster wins. Dull, but true.

Agree on the Renault comments. Both cars just felt very dull to drive and not very hot hatch at all. The Golf R just felt a better car. As for the S3, like you I didn't want to like it, but they have done a good job on that car.

The S3 was brilliant wasn't it? Was not expecting that at all.
