I have a 2 litre mitsi galant, I want it to be a bit faster. plus even though its done 27k miles, it could probably do with the engine being worked on. (mainly cos i spank it about where its actually quite slow for a 2 litre, with 135bhp)

thinking of sticking some forged pistons with slightly higher compression ratio, forged and lightweight rods, a fast road cam and a sports filter with perhaps a sports CAT for good measure.

a balanced crank would have to come after as i can get the other bits cheaper, plus i can just take the afternoon sticking in the above stuff, whereas the crank will take more time as i will have to send that off to be worked on, so will not be able to use the car unless i source another crank.

would the higher comp pistons be a good idea with an NA engine? i know when you stick a turbo/supercharger in an NA car you have to slightly lower the comp ratio, but on a NA would raising the comp give better low range? better mid an high range? or what?

I'm only talking about perhaps something like .5 higher comp, at most .7.

whats the consensus on this?

Personally I'd get a different model if you want it to be faster, it would work out a lot cheaper to. Hell, didn't Galants come in 2.5 v6s? Surely be cheaper to swap it out for one of those?

NA tuning generally seems to mean spending a lot of money to get not very much more power and compromised day to day performance

Id investigate what you can do with engine management and/or bolting a turbo on before dropping thousands on engine internals

In my own experience. When I get to the stage of thinking/having a car tuned is when I should have sold it and just bought something more powerful in the first place.

yes i agree, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new version with a bigger engine.

but what with my engine having done only done 27k since new, and that the car being fairly rare, would probably be cheaper to stick 'go faster' bit on it rather than buying a faster model.

although i will do a quote on the 2.5 v6 i doubt it will be much cheaper than a tuned 2 litre

you need a model specific forum
modern engines are very specialised, you can't just apply general tuning principals any more, what might be good and safe for one engine will be a lot of work for no reward on another, and would probably kill some engines

If you want a faster Galant here is a 2.5 V6 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...

or if you want a proper fast Galant, may I suggest it's relative the Legnum VR4 twin turbo

A VR4 is the answer.
