Citroen are doing some pretty nice looking cars these days. Even stuff like the latest MPVs look good to me.

But is their old reputation still deserved? Do I dare recommended a Citroen to my nearest and dearest, or will it be a rusty fireball within months?

See, that's the sort of review I am interested in, because from a practical and design point of view, the 2012 C3 looks very nice.

FWIW we ran a 92 BX TZD to apx 140000 2x 95 1.9 TD Xantias to a combined total of over 270000 & an 00 2.0 HDI Xantia to 190000.

Vehicles had multiple drivers but never let us down & nobody was burned!!!

Only fault, actually in all of them, was heater switches were obviously made of chocolate as they all ended their lives with blower going full speed only.

Yeah, that is the previous generation (probably even the generation before that) of Citroens. I had a BX pool car that was falling to bits, but it still worked OK. Yes, it was st, but you had to admire the way it clung onto life.

Modern stroens are st, I got to work with them day in day out the 1.6 and 1.4 diesel engines are bags of crap and are awful to do anything with them.
I do anything to avoid working on them the only upside to them is because its covered in so much plastic it doesn't rust.

We have one of these .......

Its reliable. Its quick enough to make good progress on motorways. Comfortable with sporty seats. Excellent sound system. Cruise control. Huge service intervals ( we only do low miles ). Cheap to service.

We like it.

I was surprised to see a few months back, that Citroens had done really well in some jd power type survey??
Might just be that every marque has more problems now due to all the "advances" they manufacture in such as dpf, dmf, esp, egr, etc etc, and Citreon might just have less to go wrong?

Anyway, Citreon might be alright for someone who just wants a "car" or the girlie who wants a "pretty" Pinked mirrored DS3, or "my life is st" dad driving a Picasso but, otherwise why would you??

They may be OK at a push if you buy second hand cheap but from my point of view the gear shift is like stirring soup, its utterly gutless, very plasticky inside, quite hard to demised when steam up (which is often) because of the pointless panoramic roof thingy, we can get rid of it in a couple of months by voluntary termination of the PCP and it can't come soon enough.

Thats the C3 though The DS range may be better (although I loath that they use the DS moniker)

Those are proper Citroens though the new breed seem to be made from Peugeots parts bin

Our little family runaround is a C3 Picasso. Apart from a few squeaks and rattles the interior is nicely finished and is solid enough to put up with plenty of abuse. In terms of reliability it's been brilliant too.

Ultimately it's never going to set your pants on fire (assuming the wiring isn't a time-bomb after all!) but does the job it was designed for very well indeed. Looks are a bit subjective but at least you never lose it in a car park!

Would definitely consider another Current Citroen model after this one. Or maybe go mental and get a C6!

I've just bought my eldest daughter a DS3 1.6 petrol which is a realy well put together, good looking car and the service from the Citroen main dealer has been exceptional. The interior almost matches germainic standards.

Prior to that she has a C2 1.1 petrol which she had run for 5 years and apart from servicing and general wear items had been faultless despite her treating it with no sympathy, the only time anything got checked or the car even cleaned was when she came home for a day or two.

I've also run a couple of Citroens in the past and not had a problem with either, apart from SWMBO crashing them. rolleyes

stren are dire; truly dire. I've been left stranded at the side of the road far too many times in company vehicles by this truly crap manufacturer. Poogeot are equally shocking.

We had a petrol c3 Picasso for three years, never went wrong. We'll screwed together and took plenty of day to day abuse from from two kids in its stride. I used to dislike citroens with a passion but then bought one and didn't regret it at all. I would buy another in the future.

I had a new Citroen C5 2.0HDi in 2009. It fell to bits. Burned once, never again.

Car useless, dealers useless and Citroen couldn't care less.

Never understood this reputation, the old man had many citroens,so did my brother and none of them ever went wrong. We have an estate at work and the only thing that annoys me about it is the lack of cup holders.

In my experience they're no worse than the average Ford or Vauxhall, in that they are a tin box that gets you from a to b. In their favour they do make better than average diesel engines, but in terms of looks, comfort and driving pleasure (and badge snobbery) they fall short of Volvo, BMW etc. IN MY OPINION.

A work mate is on his second diesel DS3 and had just ordered the THP as a replacement, he swaps 'em out in a fairly regular fashion - the current one is a 61 plate, the first one he kept even less time and he loves 'em, neither have put a foot wrong for him and he says they don't squeak or rattle. He had a Vauxhall before them and says it was ste in comparison.
