Got back to my car yesterday after being away to discover a whole load of mess and scratches on the door around the mirror.s (both sides) At 5am this morning the culprit returned - a huge crow.

I've put fabric covers over the mirrors for now - are there any particularly effective ways of stopping it? I know what I'd like to do to it.

I had the same issue when I lived in Suffolk . If it's a black beaked bird then it's probably a crow nesting nearby and being territorial . It finds a purchase on the bodywork and pecks away at the window or the mirror or anything that shows it's reflection.

Sounds similar to what happened to my last car. It was a Pheasant which would see it's reflection in the car and peck at the car, resulting in hundreds of tiny scratches. First option would be to fold in the mirror so it does not see it's own reflection.
Good luck

That's nothing. I once watched a Dartmoor pony use someone's wing mirror to scratch its arse.

Got an old bed sheet you can fold over the door or some other method to hold it on when you close it? Remove the attraction. Careful when it rain if through the door seal though, water will seep in.

Corvids are smart little buggers. Do you have a drive through food place nearby?

The crow prolly saw its reflection in the mirror, window and shiny paintwork and thinks a rival is challenging its territory. It is surprisingly common.

The crow may have a nest and family to protect nearby, so do not kill or harm it and potentially leave babies parentless.

One solution is to park the car in your or a neighbour's garage.

Or put a sock / soft non-scratchy blanket over the mirrors / doors / windows.

Or park the car ~100ft down the road away from the house, in either direction, for a month.

You could also put a car cover loosely on

Fold the mirror in at night? Or how about one of those stick on blinds on the inside of the car so there's no reflection?

Buy yourself an owl decoy, the crow wont come back.

(personally, i still prefer the 'shoot it' suggestions already posted, but an owl decoy will keep it away)
