While I don't condone speeding in any way shape or form (even though I and millions of others do it on a daily basis) it would be nice to have some context in the report. What limited time I've spent on the M25 it would be nigh on impossible to do 49Mph most of the time I've been unfortunate enough to travel on it so therefore I can only assume this was a '4am' job, yet the writing seems like it want to, almost on purpose, make people shocked and appalled at the speeds achieved. Speed apparently doesn't matter anymore here either. Of course the issue is they got caught. At 4AM, the only time it would have been possible on most of those roads the only people likely to be injured are the drivers themselves. Really just worried about the lack of context really.

Kent Police spokesman said a man in his 20s appeared at West Kent Magistrates' Court in March and was disqualified from driving for six months. He was also fined £600 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £65.
again, i have said this in a different thread, but where the hell is the victim in someone speeding along a motorway???
if they did not crash into anyone, or even clip anyone who is the 65 quid 'victim surcharge' going to?? the polar bears? as thats the only thing i can think of for being effected in you going that fast, an it would take millions of people to do that speed constantly to affect the polar ice caps more than, say, china or all the other industry around the world.

tty little table is missing the columns for "time of day" and "traffic conditions"Are the IAM saying that no UK driver should be allowed to drive at a speed considered as appropriate on an unlimited section of autobahn in the right conditions.In which case 149 mph wouldn't be considered as some uncontrollable suicidal event which the IAM seem to be suggesting that it is.

Just seems to be the facts and comment by IAM, I am not sure what IAM's angle is in wanting to know this information but it hardly seems a sensationalist article.Just heard the IAM bloke on the radio and apparently they want more speed cameras to tackle such speeding........

A few months ago on another thread I asked about victim surcharge on a matter that didn't seem to justify such a charge, and was told that it doesn't go to the 'victim' of a specific offence but into a central pot of money that's used where victims are deemed to be entitled to a payment.

Some people may think 150 is not very quick but that really depends on road conditions and the driver. I've been in cars that are capably of 180mph+ but I'd never try it on public roads. There's always a chance something beyond your control can happen. However I don't think "demonising" speeding would be effective - it's far better to educate and provide support and advice.
My ideal solution would be to implement high speed lanes. Vehicles using this lane must pass an "advanced MOT" and the driver also undertake advanced driver training. High speed lanes must be maintained to highest standards to ensure road conditions are safe for use. Win-win for both government and motorist IMO but perhaps not viable to implement...
