Aston Martin to expand Gaydon

£20m investment will create 250 new jobs

It's nice to write some good news about Aston Martin for a change. In preparation for its 'next generation of sports cars', building work is underway at Gaydon to boost its manufacturing capacity.

This man looks lonely; more staff are coming!

As well as new facilities covering an additional 10,000 square metres, Aston is recruiting for 250 additional jobs in engineering, manufacturing and its commercial functions. Work is due to be completed next year.

Aston Martin's chief financial officer Hanno Kirner said: "The investment in our Gaydon HQ forms part of our long-term strategy which is focused around being the number one British luxury sports car brand." Having recently confirmed last year's small profits were part of this ongoing development plans it's encouraging to see such swift progress.

So what to expect from Aston's next generation? We know a new sports car platform is being engineered, likely to be powered by the 4.0-litre V8 from the AMG GT. Given consumer demand you would imagine an SUV could be on the cards also. We're watching Aston's progress with interest.

Good news.

Not having an MD means saving a few million per annum as well.

Shame they are to become a coach builder again with the AMG powered cars. Then again used prices will likely increase.

superb news, and brilliant news they are using AMG power units, why waste a fortune reinventing the wheel when you can have superb engines from a company that spends more on RnD than AM turnover

Would love Aston to build an SUV to subsidise the continued development of the sports cars, as with Porsche.

100% agree - seeing the Cayenne on the road doesn't diminish the wow factor of a GT3 RS, as long as they continue building cool cars.

Seems a particularly bigoted comment, something sad happened in your life? I would have thought news of this type would warm most peoples hearts. I cant really see why sourcing highly developed German engines is worse than a double Ford V6 or a development of a Jaguar lump, especially when its far better in every measure. I am sure the R&D cost of a new home spun engine would flatten AM at a time when they least need it.

This is good news, but I really hope they continue to offer sports cars with a manual gearbox.

An SUV (for the profits) and a shooting brake 2+2 Vantage model (for something unique) would both be good.

At least they're not copping the blame for the Gaydon noise complaints from the locals whilst they're banished to MIRA!

I swapped back. I lkie paddle shifts, but I want a manual box in a sports car for driving on the road.
