Civilian Speed Camera Patrol?
Discussion
I was just reading a local village flyer and in it there was an advert for volunteers to be trained in the use of speed guns...
Has anyone else seen anything similar to this? I can imagine there will be enough busy bodies wanting to do this to line the roads
This was in Gloucestershire BTW

Where have you been for the past 13 years?

If you all drove through villages at the correct speed then here's a thing
No Cameras
No Busy Bodies
No dead bikers bodies (we have had a few in our village)
So if you dont like busy bodies and village speed cameras and sleeping policemen, stick to the speed limit posted then they would not have any reason to put them in.
and yes I am pretty fed up
thank you and good night

What is the correct speed? The number on the sign? Or perhaps the driver should decide? Even if you do stick to 30 limits through villages, if you have a remotely noisy/"sporty" car you are bound to enrage someone who thinks their village should be reserved for Turner-esque hay wagons. No Cameras

A few towns near me including my own have this every now and again. They just sit there for hours in their high vis, looks fun...
They rarely ever have the device ready and so usually scramble to get the speed gun when I come along the straight at 30 in my moderately loud car, and they still give me the up and down "slow down" wave of their arms
That said, on this particular bit of road far too many people appear to do 40+ most of the time, annoying because its a school walking route, and even more annoying because its mostly the school mums speeding.
Not one person has been caught here yet. Maybe they should spend more time looking through the camera instead of doing the funky chicken at me.

The problem is the 40mph everywhere brigade.

Them but a lot of these camera operators are the NOISE = SPEED bunch.Steve
There are a few of these amateur speed camera regimes in Gloucestershire and I've had to drive past them a few times and got all sorts of evil looks just because my cars are a tad audiable. Meanwhile Racy Mc Racy in a standard car simply wafts past. I've even had a numpty in a Range Rover overtake me approaching a 30mph limit and slam their brakes on after seeing a couple of HI VIS jackets on the verge.
If anything we need to play them at their own game so whilst these people are stood around with speed guns others should go around leaving notes on their cars with worn out or mismatches tyres, with defective lights, with illegal bonnet mascots, poorly adjusted seats in the window licking position and other such misdemeanours.

Happens a lot, generally what happens is a bunch of concerned geriatrics stand by the road with the gun on a few sunny days, thier friends & nieghbours get road sefety letters from the police, geriatrics get abuse from said freinds & nieghbours & give up.
I used to go through one regularly to get onto an industrial estate, I never heard of anyone other than locals being caught by them.Pebbles167 said:

d, see what they do then!
with the +100db @4000rpm let alone 7000rpm VR6 I would like to say I'd deafen them but the majority of the operatives I've seen are most likely already deaf, partially sighted and look like they have to concentrate on their bowel control so it could be interesting.

You chose to bring this animal into the neighbourhood, therefore it's YOUR responsibility to make sure it's not wandering across the road. I wouldn't have stopped either, speeding or not. F'cking thing shouldn't be on the road in the first place.
