Was in a motorway service station this week where I found myself parked next to a large very classy looking 5 Series sized car. At first glance I thought "that must be one of those new Infinity thingies brought in to rival the 5 Series. Not bad looking at all". As I caught sight of a badge I realised it was, in fact, a Mazda 6.

Never driven one but the road tests I've read have all been very positive. Add to that a car that looks very good in the flesh and I think I've found my company car of choice if I wasn't so bloody mean and running a small van to skip the tax.

Funny. Same happened to me not long ago in the rain - couldn't recognise the badge. They are cool looking creatures. The one I saw was 3/4 front to me, and front wing upper line was looking very special to me.

It's quite a handsome car, in a rather generic sort of way. Certainly at least on a par with any saloon coming out of Germany these days.

Affirm to both of these, looked twice at a sharp looking saloon the other week - Kia!

At the lights yesterday behind a very nice looking black car, even the Mrs commented that it was swank looking. Mazda 6. The front looks minging though.

The new Mazda 6's are a very nice design, especially in that deep red colour they do on them.

I was disappointed at the new Maserati Ghibli, I thought it looked like a mazda 6.

I suppose that is testament to the Mazda designers.

+1

Refreshing what they're doing with the Skyactiv engines too, good to see somebody still fettling with NA engines on new cars

Agreed it's a big step up. I like the direction kia are going too, there's a quirkiness to the soul and GT4 Stinger concept that's a breath of fresh air compared to the current Germanic offerings.

Once they decide to go premium I can see the Koreans coming up with some really funky stuff using design language more akin to Apple or Samsung, especially given how obsessed the Koreans are with computer games.

Once did a double take when walking past a Kia Optima.

Spectacularly designed and positively interesting to look at, I had never seen one before and had to walk around the back to read the model name.

Again, spectacular.
