cheap tuning cars circa 1k

looking at cars and i love a tinker.

the 2.2 hdi engine can be tuned to 200 bhp

the 328 e36 323 can be modded to over 200 bhp

any other cheapish cars that can be made to go faster fairly easily.

p.s i know the brakes, suspension should be done first but i prefer a power first.

Anything with a VAG 1.8t. Plenty of cheap tunning bits around as well. You can also occasionally find ropey MR2 Turbos for about that, but they might require some work.
